What to look for when shopping for snow pants

Perhaps the most important thing to look for when shopping for snow pants is the waterproof rating. In many cases, you will find a WB/BR scale indicated on the inside of the trousers. The WR basically stands for how water resistant the material is in general and as a rule of thumb, the higher the number, the better and more water resistant the pants.

Although the ratings get technical and rather scientific, the simple explanation is that the WR is measured in millimeters (mm). Normally the ratings range from 0 – 20,000mm. Now, it is indicated that a pair of pants has a rating of 15,000mm, what that basically means is that you can confidently place the 1X1 tube over the surface of the pants, you can fill that tube with water to a height of 15,000mm, which is 49 feet before you begin to see a leak. The trick lies in remembering that the higher the rating then the more water resistant the pants are and the more ideal they will be.

Experts advise that if you are a moderate ski enthusiast, then you might want to buy something that has a rating of 5,000mm. If, however, you hit the slopes real hard then you might want something that can stand up to that kind of abuse, then you should invest in something that has a water-resistant rating of 10,000mm. Additionally, if you live in wet climate areas such as Oregon and Washington, then you should invest in something that has a higher water-resistant rating.

The list of 10 best cheap snow pants covers the entire range and give you the best, frugal options on the market today. Find one that suits your needs and enjoy those slopes.
